Cognitive Biases in Building Energy Decisions

چکیده

Research on sustainability in the building sector currently focuses mainly technical solutions while little attention is given to how behaviour influences uptake of these solutions. Bounded rationality may have a significant impact effective implementation more sustainable technologies that are already available. However, empirical evidence effects bounded sector, such as cognitive biases, still lacking. Here, we present an investigation four biases environment, namely framing, anchor, default, and decoy effect. For that, energy-related decisions situations were presented approximately 270 participants online survey. Our results show awareness greenhouse gas emissions from buildings can be raised through framing willingness pay for energy-efficient home increased by presenting it choices shifted towards appliances using decoy. The hypothesis anchoring increases installation solar system could not supported. These findings decrease lack data context further indicate potential choice architecture environment. influence should used increase adaptation technologies.

Energy Conservation in Building

The building sector accumulates approximately a third of the final energy consumption. Consequently, the improvement of the energy efficiency in buildings has become an essential instrument in the energy policies to ensure the energy supply in the mid to long term moreover is the most cost-effective strategy available for reducing carbon dioxide emissions This paper is studying the main objecti...

Biases and optimality of sensory-motor and cognitive decisions.

I review a variety of behavioral studies directed at understanding how probability and value information is represented in motor and cognitive tasks. Subjects in (cognitive) decision-making tasks often misrepresent the frequency of rare events and typically fail to maximize expected gain. In contrast, subjects in mathematically equivalent movement tasks are generally found to be very good at ch...

Cognitive biases associated with medical decisions: a systematic review

BACKGROUND Cognitive biases and personality traits (aversion to risk or ambiguity) may lead to diagnostic inaccuracies and medical errors resulting in mismanagement or inadequate utilization of resources. We conducted a systematic review with four objectives: 1) to identify the most common cognitive biases, 2) to evaluate the influence of cognitive biases on diagnostic accuracy or management er...

Culture Moderates Biases in Search Decisions.

Prior studies suggest that people often search insufficiently in sequential-search tasks compared with the predictions of benchmark optimal strategies that maximize expected payoff. However, those studies were mostly conducted in individualist Western cultures; Easterners from collectivist cultures, with their higher susceptibility to escalation of commitment induced by sunk search costs, could...
